Yes, Istanbul has much more to offer than hair transplants and cosmetic procedures. First, let's talk about the history of Istanbul. Did you know that Istanbul was called Constantinople for hundreds of years? Yup, that's right. It is the place where two continents meet, Europe and Asia, and it's been around for over 2,500 years, making it an ideal location, especially for a history lover.
It was the capital city of three massive empires, the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman Empires leaving behind a super-cool cultural mix that you'll love exploring!

Transportation - Istanbul has a great public transportation system, including buses, trams, and ferries. I personally recommend getting a hotel near all the main sights and just walk everywhere. If you're feeling adventurous, you can also try taking a taxi or renting a bike. Just be prepared for some crazy traffic!
Best time to visit - The city is beautiful year-round, but my favorite time is spring or fall. The weather is mild and the crowds are fewer. Plus, you can catch some beautiful blooms in the parks and gardens.
Now, let's get to the fun to what you really came here for. Here are the top things to do in Istanbul:
1. Galata Tower
One of the best places for a panoramic view of Istanbul. The tower served as a watchtower by the Genoese, 13th to 15th century, who controlled the area of Galata.
Price: 35 TRY - around 3.5 USD
2. Explore the Topkapi Palace
This massive palace was the residence of the Ottoman sultans for centuries. You can wander through the many rooms and gardens, imagining what life was like in the past. Plus, the views of the Bosphorus are simply breathtaking.

3. Take a Dip in a Turkish Bath
A traditional Turkish bath, or hammam, is an experience unlike any other. You'll be scrubbed down and massaged, leaving you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. Don't be shy, embrace the nakedness and enjoy the steamy goodness. Here is a really good one.
Price: 100 - 500 TRY - 10-50 USD
4. Go Shopping in the Grand Bazaar
You have no excuse to bring a gift from Turkey to a loved one. The Grand Bazaar is THE place to treat YOURSELF & others. The deals are pretty good. This covered market is one of the oldest and largest in the world. You can find everything from spices to jewelry to leather goods. And, of course, haggling is a must. There was so much to choose from, but I was able to decide and get a 14K gold ring for $85, one of my favorite rings to date.
5. Visit the Blue Mosque
This stunning mosque gets its name from the blue tiles that adorn the walls. It's a peaceful and beautiful place to visit, but make sure to dress modestly and remove your shoes before entering. Popular guided tour: here.
Entry price: FREE
6. Take a Bosphorus Cruise
The Bosphorus is the strait that separates Europe and Asia, and a boat tour is the best way to see the city from the water. You'll pass by beautiful mansions, and ancient fortresses, and even see dolphins if you're lucky.
Price: Around 50 TRY
7. Walk Across the Galata Bridge
This historic bridge connects the old and new parts of Istanbul. You can watch the fishermen below, take in the views of the city, and even grab a fish sandwich from one of the many vendors. Once you cross the bridge, you will meet with all of the bazaars filled with turkish sweets, delicious cheeses, spices and more.
8. Visit the Hagia Sophia
This iconic building has a long and varied history, serving as a cathedral, mosque, and now a museum. The architecture alone is worth the visit, but the history and cultural significance make it a must-see.
Price: 50 TRY
9. Dolmabahce Palace
Dolmabahce Palace is a stunning and iconic historical landmark located on the shores of the Bosphorus Strait. It is an ideal place to visit because you not only get to witness the palace and leaitst's history, you get to witness Istanbul's beautiful skyline by the shore. Dolmabahce Palace served as the main center and residence for the Ottoman Sultans and later for the Turkish Presidents. The gardens, fountains and statues, views and overall architecture showcase the extravagant lifestyle of the Ottoman elite.

10. Watch the Sunset at Ortaköy
This charming neighborhood is located on the Bosphorus and has a great view of the Bosphorus Bridge. It is known for its historic landmarks, lively atmosphere, and stunning views, including the iconic Ortaköy Mosque and its popular street food scene. You can sit by the water and watch the sunset while enjoying a drink and some meze. It's a perfect way to end a day of exploring the city.
Conclusion
Overall, Istanbul offers endless opportunities for fun and excitement, including spa days at luxurious hammams, shopping sprees at designer stores, and rooftop drinks with stunning views of the Bosphorus. The city's lively nightlife scene and delicious cuisine are also perfect for a fun night out. Whether you're exploring the colorful streets of Beyoglu or having a shopping spree at the bazaar, Istanbul offers a unique and unforgettable experience that will leave you with memories to cherish.
